Mercure Nottingham, It's all about the lace

Laura and Carl's weekend break

We both work in the week and spend most of our weekends doing stuff with Ethan or for the charity. We never take time for ourselves, so we when the Mercure offered us a weekend away to take some overdue timeout and reset we sat and thought about it and decided we needed it.

We booked ourselves a 2 night stay with thanks to Ben at The Mercure Nottingham, Sherwood

First impressions of the hotel was lovely as we entered the reception area, we were greeted by the staff and given our room number. The room was spotlessly clean and we had a selection of snacks along with complementary robes and slippers.

We headed down to the restaurant on the evening and were given a table in the beautiful. The menu was really good and prices were no more than an average pub. Carl picked the hand crafted burger and fries and I picked my favourite, pork belly. Food took a little longer to arrive as it's cooked fresh to order so we didn't mind the wait, it was nice to sit still for once. The staff, Patricia and Viola were lovely throughout our stay and are a credit to the team and the food was delicious, thank you to the chef.

I quickly noticed the theme around the hotel, lace. Nottingham was once the centre of the world's lace industry and was an area of salesrooms and warehouses storing, displaying and selling lace. This theme was carried through the city itself in the buildings

On Saturday we had a stroll into the town centre which was a 20 min walk and we had a lazy day looking at all the amazing buildings and took in the history it holds. We managed a little bit of shopping, even it was only swimming trunks for Carl and new pj's for me. Last of the big spenders!!!

Even the fast food shops had some quirky names

All in all we had a fantastic 2 days away, can highly recommend the hotel and Nottingham it's self. Oh and Ethan, he was spoilt rotten with McDonalds, bowling, Pizza, Milkshake, Arcades, the park on his scooter and a Greggs. Don't think he noticed we were gone!
