Who knew bike fits were a big thing? We certainly didn't.

Carl and Matt headed into an appointment with Mike at Bridgtown Cycles very proud with a "We are doing this challenge in September over 12 days." Unbeknown to them they were talking to world record holder Lynne Taylor (Biddulph). The high-achieving amateur cyclist became the quickest female in the world to cover 1,000 miles solo in 2002, and she still holds the title.
After picking themselves us up and recovering from the embarrassment of the opening line, they found Lynne was a wealth of knowledge not only about the route but the mental side of riding long distance. Lynne said "It's not about the time it takes, it's about doing the challenge and completing it in your own time."
This whole idea of jumping on an old road bike out the shed was looking less and less likely. Professional cycle rides involve the correct size bike, shoes, peddles, saddles, shorts, helmets and even the socks.

The guys had the fitting with Lynne's brother Mike, who again had so much knowledge, from the bikes, sitting position, food during the rides and more. The advice they were given should make a big difference to the ride. Everything is now starting to make sense and hopefully it should be easier.
Tape measures and seat pads at the ready, the fitting started. We don't think there was a nut, screw or bolt that wasn't adjusted to get the proper fit. The difference it made was instant. Both Carl and Matt had a new confidence about them, it ignited something inside.

Six hours later, Carl and Matt were kitted out and fully fitted to the new bikes kindly donated from Go Outdoors.
After leaving the shop they couldn't wait to get on the next training adventure to test the bikes out and see the difference it has made.
Oh what a difference... The feel of the road, the feel of the bike, it was like everything was made to fit even down to the insoles in the shoes to align the footing on the peddles. Instantly the speed was a lot quicker and smoother. The bike felt comfortable and easy. Bike fit's are not cheep and we all looked at each other when quoted the price but you get way more than "just a bike fit" you get a wealth of knowledge, advice and experience from Mike and Lynne. If you have never had one done and are a regular rider if is certainly recommended.

The first day i met Carl and Matt i just knew how determined they were for their Journey for "Ethans Journey" we then met Laura and Ethan and we just know that this Team are going to thoroughly enjoy the End to End! They are so passionate in whatever they do and they are giving it 100% commitment and to see Ethan shine through all this is just THE BEST! To say you have ridden the length of the country is a massive achievement and we look forwards to hearing all about it. Until then keep training and smiling and believing!
