2 unfit truckers - 60 mile bike ride

Ethan's dad Carl and Matt decided they needed to get some serious training in for the bike ride in September. Not sure who had the bright idea of cycling around the Isle of Wight but I'm guessing it was Carl. The island has some stunning views the majority of the way round but it also has some amazing hills too.

After setting off at 3.30am in the morning for the drive to Southampton they boarded the ferry. Once on the Island they headed to the café for breakfast, proper training fuel apparently.
10am they started the clockwise journey around the island from Cowes. They soon realised the error of their ways a few miles in, the breakfast was not enough input for the output. Luckily Matt had packed a bit better than Carl and had some energy gels to hand.
During the ride they stopped a few times for a rest and caught up with some local cyclists. They guys found out the best way is anti clockwise as the hills are not as steep and the wind not so head on.
The half way point saw them starting to struggle and a McDonalds stop was needed, chicken was on the menu, very sensible!

They powered on and managed to finish the ride in 6hr 10min and covered 61.05 miles.
A lot of lessons were learnt on this trip which was a real wake up call for both of them. As the title say's - 2 unfit truckers. On the boat on the way back to the hotel in Southampton they did some research on the ride, they found out it is quite the endurance ride for experienced cyclists and definitely not for the novice.
Things they have taken from the experience
Don't travel 6hrs before hand
Eat a proper carb fuelled breakfast
Get proper bikes
Take snacks
Plan a better stop for lunch
Research the route first
They survived there first endurance ride (just need to do it 11 consecutive days September)
They don't feel too bad the day after, just tender buttocks
